Egypt

Many have asked and this is the easiest way I know to get the word out quickly. As many already know, my mother and stepfather moved to a city just outside of Cairo, Egypt for a job assignment last September. They have completely enjoyed the time they have had in Egypt but this weeks explosion of political fire has really made more of an impact than ever anticipated.

They have been receiving texts with instructions from the US Embassy all week. We were first told that the riots were far from them and life was as usual but as the week has progressed so has the riots and violence. The riots now are just below them on the streets and they are confined to their apartment. Mom said they haven't slept well for several days because of the noise from outside. Because they are fearful of looters who might attempt to enter the high rise, they have taken to the streets in shifts patrolling with rocks and such to protect their homes and families.

As you know, the Embassy has advised all Americans now to flee the country with their help. They were told to pack one bag per person, no more than 45 lbs, and be ready first thing in the morning. They did not know as of last night, where they were going (home to Illinois or just to another country that is safe) or how they would get there. We are assuming we will get another call today or tomorrow when they are safely out of the country. (We have limited communication with them as their only cell phone that works has limited minutes.)

They are in good spirits and doing well but would love for you to please keep them in your prayers. Thanks for all your support!

Oh my goodness, soap opera drama for sure! I had no idea all this was going on--crazy!
I'm glad your parents got out ok, that your mom is taking care of you, and hopefully you can get the ball rolling with the transplant stuff asap. I'm sure it's not your favorite thing on your to do list, but I will be praying for you.
